This year on November 2, like every year, Shah Rukh Khan invited the media over to celebrate his birthday at Mannat. The superstar came an hour and a half later than was expected, but he had fed the media well (with snacks) and made sure everyone was happy. Like always, photographers and cameramen had a verbal war over who should get SRK's picture or footage first.
Dressed in a blue-and-white checked shirt and blue jeans, with his Aviators on, Shah Rukh looked as handsome as a superstar is expected to look. And as soon as the actor was seated, he was bombarded with questions. Here are some of Shah Rukh Khan's priceless quotes.
On turning 44:
"I feel 24-25…I think of life as work. I'm a workaholic. There has been a great achievement. Allah, God has been kind to me. This year has been quieter for me. I spent more time with my children. I was a little sad because of my shoulder injury…more emotional. But I had time to write…to write some of my films. I could do some introspection. Somehow, all this has made me feel more energetic and happy. (On a lighter note) I've earned lessthis year! But I've made so many people smile."
On what his family and best friend Karan Johar gifted him:
"My kids are making something…they gave me a hint, saying that it's under production and I'll get the gift by Sunday. My son will give just anything probably…. And the wife has not gifted me anything. Karan (Johar) has gifted me – I have a fetish for laptop bags…so he keeps giving me Louis Vuitton's and stuff."
On his relationship with the media:
SRK went in a full on maska mode and charmed the media by saying, " I have realised over more than 20 years of working, that you guys (the media) are my true friends." He added tongue-in-cheek that he's open to receiving gifts from the media till Sunday!
On his best colleagues over the years:
A lot of new people say the industry is a difficult place to be in. But there is a lot of friendship while working. You work with people like Karan and Juhi, and then do another film, and then you come back and work together again…and take it up from there. It's a different kind of relationship we have than other lines of work. There are so many – Sridevi, Aamir (Khan), Salman (Khan), Deepika (Padukone), Madhuri (Dixit)…I can't name all.
On his birthday resolution:
"It's been a marvellous life. I want to give back a lot more. I don't know how to do it – maybe join an NGO. Now that I'm 44, I strongly feel I need to do that. I don't know much about the environment, but I will say that, as it's important."
